IRS, States and Tax Industry Warn Employers to Beware of Form W-2 Scam; Tax Season Could Bring New Surge in Phishing Scheme

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Service, state tax agencies and the tax industry today urged all employers to educate their payroll personnel about a Form W-2 phishing scam that made victims of hundreds of organizations and thousands of employees last year.

Make sure the website you are visiting is legit.

[WARNING] Bad guys have a new scam. They create websites that look just like the real sites from security software vendors like Symantec, McAfee, Malwarebytes, Kaspersky and others. When you search for these sites, you could very easily pick the fake site instead of the real one.

Spoof Calls

Security Federal Savings Bank is aware of automated phone calls being received saying they are calling on behalf Security Federal. Please be aware the Fraud Center calling on behalf of SFSB will never ask for any information, they will provide information to be verified. Customers will only be contacted during the hours of 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. EST and will leave an 800 number for you to call as well as a number to call collect if needed. Skimming Scams

Don’t fall prey to ATM skimming scams. Scammers can quickly read a card’s information and use it to access your account fraudulently. With a small device, your card’s information gets stored so that criminals can easily get to it later. Skimmers may be installed on ATM machines or at the gas station pump, and sometimes you can’t even notice them. A small device goes over the normal card reading slot and reads your card’s magnetic stripe.
